Chargers

Buying a charger seems simple until you count the devices at home: phones, earbuds, doorbell batteries, and remotes — everything needs power, and preferably fast. At Strex, you can compare three types of chargers that together cover your entire household: compact 25W GaN fast chargers for phones and tablets, 15W wireless Qi chargers for the nightstand, and battery chargers that allow you to reuse AA and AAA batteries hundreds of times.
Which charger for which device?
| What do you want to charge? | Best choice |
|---|---|
| Phone or tablet, as fast as possible | USB-C 25W GaN fast charger |
| Phone on nightstand or desk | Wireless Qi charger 15W |
| AA/AAA for doorbell, mouse, toys | Battery charger (4 or 8 slots) |
The three complement each other rather than replacing one another: the fast charger for when you're in a hurry, the Qi charger for convenience, and the battery charger for everything running on loose cells. Anyone who has all three at home will rarely buy disposable batteries again and will never have to hunt for a cable at bedtime.
Why GaN chargers can be so small
GaN (gallium nitride) is the successor to silicon in chargers: it switches more efficiently and loses less energy as heat. The practical result: a 25W GaN charger is smaller than a traditional charger with the same power output, stays cooler, and fits more easily into a travel bag or power strip. Same outlet, more power per cubic centimeter — that’s the whole trick, and the reason why compact fast chargers are standard GaN nowadays.
What to look out for?
- ✔ Power (watt) — 25W charges modern phones at fast-charge speed; the device will never draw more than it can handle
- ✔ USB-C — the universal standard; one charger for phone, earbuds, and power bank
- ✔ Qi compatibility — wireless charging works with every phone that supports Qi, regardless of the brand
- ✔ Number of battery slots — 4 slots for a small household, 8 for families with many devices
- ✔ Warranty — 2 years standard at Strex
The battery charger calculation that no one makes
Rechargeable AA batteries last for hundreds of charge cycles. A household with a doorbell, wireless mouse, toys, and remote controls easily goes through dozens of disposable batteries a year — so the battery charger with a set of rechargeable cells pays for itself in no time, and after that, every charge is virtually free. An additional advantage that is rarely mentioned: charged spare cells are always ready, so an empty doorbell or mouse is just a matter of swapping them out instead of running to the store. If you mainly charge on the go, a power bank is the mobile addition to your home chargers — and wireless charging works best without a thick case, as described with our power banks. Frequently asked questions
Is fast charging bad for my phone battery?
No, not with normal use: the phone and charger negotiate the speed together, and the device limits itself. Heat is the real cause of wear — therefore, do not charge under a pillow or in direct sunlight, and the difference compared to slow charging is negligible.
Does a Qi charger work with my phone?
Yes, if your phone supports wireless charging — Qi is the universal, brand-independent standard. Place your phone on it, the light turns on, it charges. Not working immediately? A thick case with cards or metal plates will block the transfer; remove that first.
Can I charge regular batteries in a battery charger?
No — only rechargeable (NiMH) AA and AAA cells. Charging disposable batteries (alkaline) is unsafe: they can leak or burst. You can recognize the rechargeable versions by the NiMH label and the mAh value on the cell.
How many watts does my phone need to fast charge?
Most modern phones fast charge between 18 and 25 watts — a 25W charger covers that completely. Buying more watts than your device uses makes no sense but also does no harm: the device only takes what it can handle.
