Measuring and test equipment

Buying a laser distance meter turns measuring from a two-person job into a one-button task: aim, click, and the distance up to 60 meters appears on the display with millimeter precision — no sagging tape measure, no helping hand needed. Also in this measurement collection: the infrared thermometer that reads temperatures from -50 to +550 °C without touching anything.
Laser distance meter: measuring where a tape measure gives up
Its strength lies in situations where a tape measure fails: measuring a room alone at home (laser against the wall instead of someone holding the end), ceiling height without a ladder, and long distances where a 60-meter range beats any tape measure. Calculation functions do the rest — the device calculates surface area and volume itself, handy for counting laminate, estimating paint, and answering the eternal question "will that sofa fit?". For movers, handymen, and marketplace buyers, this is the tool you only miss once you've had it.
What to look for?

- ✔ Calculation functions — surface area and volume directly on the display, no mental math required
- ✔ Temperature range (IR) — -50 to +550 °C: from freezer to griddle
- ✔ Contactless measurement — read temperatures of things that are too hot, too cold, or in motion
- ✔ Warranty — standard 2 years at Strex
What an infrared thermometer does and does not measure
The misunderstanding that prevents disappointment: an IR thermometer measures surface temperature — the spot you are aiming at — not the air and not the core. That is exactly why it is so useful: the frying pan that "seems hot enough," the radiator pipe that isn't working, the freezer that is cooling dubiously, the iron, the griddle on the barbecue — aim and read, without risking your fingers. For the core temperature of meat, a probe thermometer remains the right tool; the IR measures the outside. One practical tip: shiny metal surfaces reflect, resulting in readings that are too low — measure on a matte spot or stick a piece of tape on it for an accurate value. If you want to perform electrical measurements on a car or house, you will find the multimeter at OBD2 & diagnostics — and more tools at electronics & gadgets.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is a laser distance meter?
Accurate to the millimeter over the full range up to 60 meters — more precise than a tape measure that sags or slips. Aim at a solid surface; measuring through glass or on reflective surfaces will cause deviations.
Can I measure food with the IR thermometer?
The surface temperature, yes: the pan, the griddle, the frying oil at the surface. An IR thermometer does not measure the core temperature of meat or bread — for that, you use a probe thermometer. The combination of both covers the entire kitchen.
Does the laser distance meter work outside?
Yes, up to 60 meters — more than enough for a garden, driveway, and facade. In bright sunlight, the laser dot is harder to see at long distances; in that case, measure to a shaded point or use a target card for the best result.
